Steering Committee Meeting

The Steering Committee are set to meet in June to discuss the upcoming papers/ reports and works of the Pacific Facilitating Unit (PFU). The meeting will be chaired by the Papua New Guinea Education Minister.

The PHES Steering Committee is composed of five members of the Pacific Heads of Education Systems (PHES) serving on a rational basis - to represent PHES on all PacREF matters. This meeting will be held virtually and is organized by the PacREF Facilitating Unit (PFU).

24th Pacific Heads of Education Systems (PHES) Meeting

Date: From 27th July, 2021 to 30th July, 2021 10:00-14:00 hours Port Moresby time  The Virtual meeting is co-hosted by UNESCO and Papua New Guinea's Ministry of Education this year. The four day Pacific Heads of Education Systems (PHES) Meeting is scheduled for the end of July. The PHES meeting is organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Launch of Regional Education Policy Bank

The Pacific Community's education programme, the Educational Quality and Assessment Programme (EQAP), will launch the online portal or repository of the region's education policies and strategic plans. This initiative will serve education stakeholders by improving accessibility to the electronic copies of these important documentation of all the 15 Pacific education systems. The repository is inbuilt in SPC's Data Hub portal and will also serve to support the policy work that was commenced by the Pacific Benchmarking of Educational Results (PaBER) project.

PacREF IA Fono

Virtual

            The five implementing Agencies (SPC-EQAP, USP, UNICEF, UNESCO, APTC) of the PacREF Programme have organized themselves into a group of IA Fono to discuss issues that be presented to the SC and HRD WG. It is also a Forum to discuss collaboration and partnerships in the implementation of activities under the PacREF implementation Rolling Plan. The IA Fono is convened by the PFU.

The Pacific Heads of Education Systems (PHES) Steering Committee (SC) consisting of five members of the PHES serving on a 2-year rotational basis. Membership comprises a representative from each of the 3 sub-regions in the Pacific, a representative of smaller island states and a representative of the larger island states in the region. The SC will represent the PHES on all PacREF policy and programming matters in between PHES meetings. CROP HRD WG

The CROP HRD WG a group under the CROP architecture will ensure that the Outcomes Documents from each PHES meeting are adequate to allow each PHES member to comprehensively update their minister and their ministers on PacREF Programme progress and the outcomes of PHES meeting. PHES meetings will be convened by UNESCO in consultation with the Chair of the CROP HRD WG regarding the agenda and presentations. Joint Oversight Mission

The Joint Oversight Mission (JOM) will provide the Programme’s management and its development partners (PacREF’s funding agencies – Asian Development Bank (ADB), Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (NZ MFAT); the Grant Agent, ADB; the Coordinating Agency, NZ MFAT; the PacREF governance structure, represented by the Pacific Heads of Education Systems (PHES) Steering Committee (SC); and PacREF Programme management, represented by the PacREF Facilitating Unit (PFU) with the opportunity to jointly assess the PacREF Programme’s progress over 2021. Nauru National Fono

Nauru National Fono The PacREF Facilitating Unit (PFU) in collaboration with the Implementing Agencies (IAs) have started convening a consultative forum with countries which we are calling the National Fono. During the National Fono, the Ministry of Education staff will be briefed on the PacREF programme and its implementation. Ministries may share their sector plan strategies and priorities for the IAs consideration. The main objective of the National Fono is to create greater awareness in countries of the PacREF programme and discuss how best to work together to maximise its impact in supporting national education goals.

PacREF Webinar “Fostering Commitment to Education and Culture “

Scheduled for July 6, 2023, from 11 am to 1 pm Fiji Time, this webinar aims to engage participants from the Pacific region in a discussion on the region’s commitment to education and culture, which was a priority action statement during the Conference of Pacific Education Ministers (CPEM) held in Auckland in March this year.
