The Steering Committee are set to meet in June to discuss the upcoming papers/ reports and works of the Pacific Facilitating Unit (PFU). The meeting will be chaired by the Papua New Guinea Education Minister.

The PHES Steering Committee is composed of five members of the Pacific Heads of Education Systems (PHES) serving on a rational basis - to represent PHES on all PacREF matters. This meeting will be held virtually and is organized by the PacREF Facilitating Unit (PFU).
Date: From 27th July, 2021 to 30th July, 2021 10:00-14:00 hours Port Moresby time The Virtual meeting is co-hosted by UNESCO and Papua New Guinea's Ministry of Education this year. The four day Pacific Heads of Education Systems (PHES) Meeting is scheduled for the end of July. The PHES meeting is organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The Pacific Community's education programme, the Educational Quality and Assessment Programme (EQAP), will launch the online portal or repository of the region's education policies and strategic plans. This initiative will serve education stakeholders by improving accessibility to the electronic copies of these important documentation of all the 15 Pacific education systems. The repository is inbuilt in SPC's Data Hub portal and will also serve to support the policy work that was commenced by the Pacific Benchmarking of Educational Results (PaBER) project.
The five implementing Agencies (SPC-EQAP, USP, UNICEF, UNESCO, APTC) of the PacREF Programme have organized themselves into a group of IA Fono to discuss issues that be presented to the SC and HRD WG. It is also a Forum to discuss collaboration and partnerships in the implementation of activities under the PacREF implementation Rolling Plan. The IA Fono is convened by the PFU.

The CROP HRD WG a group under the CROP architecture will ensure that the Outcomes Documents from each PHES meeting are adequate to allow each PHES member to comprehensively update their minister and their ministers on PacREF Programme progress and the outcomes of PHES meeting. PHES meetings will be convened by UNESCO in consultation with the Chair of the CROP HRD WG regarding the agenda and presentations. This coding workshop is designed to upskill education officials of the PILNA 2021 participating countries on the coding of the various test items used in the literacy and numeracy assessments. The training is to ensure the participants will be well equipped to teach their respective country teams how to code students' responses. Participants will learn how the codes are applied and the processes involved in coding the different domains. Coding of students' responses of all the 14 participating countries will be conducted in-country with remote support provided by EQAP's Large Scale Assessment team. EQAP's Curriculum and Assessment Team will convene a workshop to work with several regional agencies and development partners to review the Pacific Regional Teacher Competency Framework. The partners invited to help reshape the decade-old framework include the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the University of the South Pacific, the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), the Commonwealth Secretariat, and the region's departments/ministries of education. The regional teacher competency framework encapsulates the guiding standards for teacher professionalism in the Pacific. PacREF's Annual Reflection workshop aims to provide the necessary platform to allow the 15 Pacific education system's contact person and representatives of the PacREF Implementing Agencies (IAs) to review their data, experiences and progress in regard to the implementation of the various PacREF activities. The reflection should allow for parties to identify areas of improvement and strategies to advance engagement and success. This platform will also inform the draft annual monitoring and evaluation report.
